Case of Blue

Price

£28.00

Abstract, tactile textured blue, cream and black inspired by Joni Mitchell's lost love. Talking about A Case of You, Joni Mitchell said: I wanted to be capable of being responsible for my own errors. If there was friction between me & another person, I wanted to be able to see my participation in it so I could see what could be changed & what could not. That is part of the pursuit of happiness. You have to pull the weeds in your soul when you are young, when they are sprouting, otherwise they will choke you.

I painted this at a difficult time when I hadn’t painted anything for a long time and I wanted to experiment with something different.

This piece is built through deliberate layering, controlled material application, and close attention to texture, surface tension, and visual balance. The work reflects an ongoing studio practice focused on physical process, emotional weight, and the complexity that emerges through repetition and adjustment.

The surface holds visible evidence of its making. Layers are applied, interrupted, partially concealed, and re‑worked, creating depth, noticeable in different lights, and angles.

This original abstract painting is suitable for collectors seeking contemporary abstract art, textured artwork, and distinctive statement pieces. It works particularly well in domestic, studio, and professional environments where material richness and visual restraint are valued. The piece integrates naturally into modern, minimal, industrial, and character‑led interiors.

Created in the United Kingdom as part of an independent artist practice, Case of Blue represents a commitment to sustained making, material experimentation, and long‑term artistic development.

This is not mass‑produced wall decor. It is a singular physical artwork, produced slowly and intentionally, and intended to remain relevant well beyond short‑term trends.

Original Art & Fine Art Prints Handmade in Oxfordshire

I use a variety of materials in my process. From brushes and pallet knives to cardboard scraps and sticks. My work is largely acrylic paint, whichever brand I can get on offer, and my preffered mediums are either Windsor and Newton or Liquitex.

Once signed and varnished, I photograph my paintings in natural light and crop to standard print sizes, adjusting levels to ensure as accurate a match to the original as possible. Once exported I print on my inkjet Epson P-900 SureColour. Tis a sexy beast.

I print onto a variety of papers, including high gloss and watercolour. My larger prints use satin 260gsm and my extra large prints (A1 & A0) are handled by a top notch local third party printing service I've been working with for years.
